The Permanent Fire turns nearby flammable blocks into a Fire. Air which is both nearby a permanent fire and a flammable block will randomly turn into (normal) fires. See Category:Flammable for a list of flammable blocks. Notably, Chests and locked chests will not burn. Other than fire, a permanent fire does not ignite gun powder and TNT.

A permanent fire is created on top of a Coal Block when a player punches it with a Flint and Steel.

The player can put out the permanent fire by punching it. It is also extinguished when a Coal Block below it is removed. Also, Water near a Permanent Fire extinguishes it. Other than the Fire, the Permanent Fire does not disappear automatically after some time has passed. Also, they do not emit a burning sound like normal fires do.

A permanent fire deals Heart.pngHeart.png damage every second. Every 10 seconds, flammable items inside a permanent fire are destroyed.
